This is the problem, my screen resolition is 1024X768, i am currentyl using Flyakite v2.0 ( just been launched 2 days back ) and Y'z dock but what i am interested in is the Dashborad dock so i hope you could manage to change the supported resolution so we can all benefit from this wonderful skin.

Cheers,

Firstly, I just want you to know I love what you have accomplished here. Really first rate.
I have a simple question and a hard question for you...
simple -- where can i find the ObjectBar interface you are using in your screen shot?
hard -- any chance of creating a 1280 x 800 version for us laptop users?

Thanks so much,
Todd

Thankyou for your kind words Todd. To answer your questions, goto CRNI's website here: Link to find the Objectbar theme (he has every imaginable theme available). As for the resolution change, it's quite simple to do yourself. Enter into the developer's program, go to Object List and find the object 'widgetbar' or something similar. From there, adjust the Y position up 224 pixels. Save theme and you should be set.

I can't work on the theme at the moment but let me know if you have any more questions and I will try to answer them to the best of my memory.

This is very cool. Very good idea for a GUI! I think you guys can go in and modify the files to change the resolution. I'm on a laptop with a high resolution and I've ever used Desktop X yet, but you would think that you would be able to tweak the resolution before you applied the theme. So if I tweak it I'll let you know how to do it.

Clicking on download brings up version 4.0 not version 4.1.

Yes, Alduleimi - I have had to revert back to 800x600 so this is the screen resolution the theme now supports. By version 5.0 it will support all resolutions up to 1600x1200.

Version 4.7 will be available soone and will include some new features such as:

1. Dashboard customization panel - you can now customize the look of the Dashboard to any style you wish or use the included preset themes.

2. New widgets!!! There are now a NetRadio player, Dictionary and Flight Tracker! Also the Weather widget has gotten a make-over and now includes 6-day lows.

3. The Dashboard now behaves closer to the Tiger release in that it can be retracted to allow full-screen viewing of the widgets and called back to select more.

Many other tweaks have been added and I hope you and everyone that downloads will enjoy the new version. I have also set up a Paypal account for donations to be made to keep this project alive. New and exciting things are planned but we need money to help make these ideas a reality. If you have some spare change consider donating it to a good cause.

Thankyou,

C. James Lichty

How do you do that thing where you put the icons at the bottom of the screen on one line, as shown on the screenshot for SophOS 4.7? thanks

Only resoloution 600x800 works for me and it's rather discombobulated. Theme looks great but doesn't work.

1. Not sure whether your using an object bar or not. I only saw the tool bart of the bar.

2. Address book still didn't seem to work.

3. Control panel would only allow me to select 600x800 resoloution.

I think the finished version of this will be great.

Flemmus: The dock at the bottom is ObjectDock and is available for free at Stardock.net There are various other dock programs available - all free as well. RK Launcher is quite a good one though still in beta. Moby dock is rather old and Yz dock which had to be discontinued due to a cease and desist order by Apple to the programmer.

CoachDoug: Please explain what you mean by discombobulated. The theme works fine here and I use it on a day to day basis. I am uncertain how you can say it looks great and then not work at the same time.

If you refer to the Theme Info you will see that I have decided to do away with using ObjectBar and have opted to use the taskbar in conjunction with Landervasser's FinderBar Add-on instead. The toolbar then floats above the taskbar and can be repositioned to fit your current windows theme (I'm using Kol's Tiger2 VS modified to work in Windowblinds by myself) but looks great using other themes as well.

In the final release of version 4.7, the user will also be able to choose white or black icons in case you prefer to use dark themes.

The Address Book widget does work but as I've said in the past, in order to add an entry you must manually edit the script. I am currently working on changing this.

As for Control Panel (re: Theme Preference panel) you can only select 800x600 DPI because this is the only screen resolution available at the moment. I will be adding the higher resolutions in the future.

Atonak: Not sure what is happening there. Must be a fault on Wincustomize's side.

Please be advised that this is only a beta release and as such there are bound to be some bugs. I have tried my best to minimalize those occurances but one does pop up, please let me know.

Sranshaft. Developing a multi-resolution theme for something like this is not easy but is worthwhile. I could have made my DW-Desktop theme (Link) in a fraction of the time if it wasn't resolution independant. The majority of the sizing and position is in the gradient object if you want to have a look at this.

Also, there will probably be bugs in your BBC Newsfeed (if it's based on mine) because they have just changed their forecast. I'll be looking to do a fix over the weekend.

Cheers - looks good,

Martin

Martin: Thankyou for the encouragment. I am all ready to go with the resizing of the theme but without a computer to test it on it's really hard. Hoping to fix the problem in the near finger (fingers crossed) but with the 'big move' to Australia and the wedding, things take precedence.

I'll be taking a look at your desktop though (really enjoy the things you put out) to see if you've done if differently to the way I'm planning. Looking for the quickest, least painful way to script it because after I'm done with that I'll be starting on a widget management system for the Dashboard which looks like it will take a big part of my time in implementing - adding the ability to allow users to add/delete widgets and the like.

Also, thanks for the heads up about the newsfeed. I noticed it about a week ago when I was updating the feed script and adding their other various feeds. Wasn't too much of a hassle though.

Would like to hear your thoughts on how I would go about modifying the font size dynamically through script. I've seen there isn't anything directly associated with this function in DesktopX yet and I really don't want to have seperate labels for the Dashboard for each resolution. And if you have any ideas on the widget management system. I was thinking of having each Dashboard object a .exe and instead of have the shortcuts setup as Object Controllers have a script that would call the path of the .exe This is the best way I can think of at the moment as then I can use a variable in the script that calls the path the user can input.

Scranshaft,

I originally opened the theme in a larger resoloution when I realized that it what the problem was and reverted to the smaller screen size, things got misplaced a bit on the screen.

I meant to say your screenshot provided with the release looked very good.

I fooled with the address book and see what you mean about additions to it. It will be interesting to see the final script. It's all a bit over my head.

Black Xero: most apprectiative of your comments.

Levdave: if you would like to use your desktop icons you can with this theme. you can also use your taskbar. just go into the DesktopX configuration and de-select the options 'Hide Icons' and 'Hide Taskbar'. (i would put the taskbar along the bottom set to autohide but you can do as you like). the next release will have more option for the user to choose from - ie; different quick media buttons, text color, postit colors, toolbar skins, and will include a 'help desk' feature that will guide you through setup and some basic customizations.

thomassen: thankyou for poiting that out to me. i will be releasing an updated version addressing those problems now. as for the address book, the only way you can enter a new entry, as of right now, is to manually edit the script (it's fully noted where to copy). hopefully i'll be able to make this easier in the next r

Can you (or someone) make these desktop objects/widgets seperate from the theme so we can use the ones we want? Even make other things seperate like the top menubar (objectbar).

Although this skin is beautiful, Im finding it basically unusable. I cant put icons on the desktop, I cant access my taskbar if needed, otherwise the other features of this are very nice like the toolbar shortcuts, Spotlight Google search, media player buttons, and even the iAnnounce is very nice. Id just like to see all of these things seperate so I can pick and choose what I want (and dont want) becuase right now its not user friendly not being able to put icons on the desktop. The whole dashboard is GREAT but if those objects/widgets were seperate it would be nice also.
