Theme Manager/My Colors
Sunday, March 4, 2012 by Aussie007 | Discussion: Theme Manager
Hi all,
I have not used Theme Manager or My Colors for over 12 months (last time used via Impulse) so I decided that I would give both of them a try.
I downloaded the latest installers via Stardock store and I have the following problems.
Theme Manager will not load themes correctly. I have the option checked to see advanced options when applying suites and it does not seem to matter which suite I try and load it tells me that WindowBlinds skin, cursorFX,Wallpapers etc are not installed.
When I look in the applications window in Theme Manager the skins are there.
The curious part is that if I load a WindowBlinds skin via Theme Manager and then look at the suite for that blind it now shows that the skin is installed!!!
When I install My Colors and reboot as required I end up with the Windows Classic skin and the only thing I can change it to (using Window Blinds) is the default Aero skin. Luckily I created a restore point prior to installation so I am back to normal at the moment.
I also installed the Beta version of WindowBlinds but that made no difference.

First.....Theme Manager is close to defunct and My Colors is no longer supported. What you'll have to do is go to stardock.com/store and login to your account. If your sub is still current you'll see a list of programs you can download. Each of them now has an installer package. Those you keep for backups in case you need them. As far as the individual skins go you'll have to visit each gallery to download them.

I suggest changing the suite's file extension from .suite to .zip and extracting the contents, place the folders in the appropriate directory under C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock and apply the items manually.
As far as the My Colors versions go, I cannot offer a fix. The program is no longer supported and the skins made for it will ONLY work with it installed. I don't think any are Windows 7 skins. Stardock had converted some of them to suites before abandoning the program but I'm not sure they're available as suites anymore. I have almost a dozen I can't use myself.

I have found that ThemeManager works better without MyColors installed. I would do a full uninstall on both and just reinstall ThemeManager.
Still ThemeManager sadly has lost some of it's funtionality so Lantec's option is best right now.
