Smart phone - ever been stalked?

Our son is turning 14 and we thought it would be a good idea to put him on our phone as an additional line. Well, he wanted a smart phone, which we agreed with, and decided to upgrade ours as well.
The two phone upgrades were processed from one location and the new line processed from another. American Express flagged the new line as fraudulently suspicious and declined the purchase. I called Amex and straightened out the issue and thought I dealt with T-Mobile to resend the order purchase however was informed that now it was in back order status. This was on the 29th.
We received the two upgrade phones (Galaxy 5's) which provided us with the opportunity to play with the phones without activating.
They are kind of neat. The clarity of photos is amazing and I'm sure there are other pluses as well.
There are a few things that I don't like. Free apps have banner ads at the bottom including those that flash red. Signing into google or samsung stores won't allow you to log out. There is a app that will log out of google but then goggle will nag you to log in when you open up the phone. The only way to delete the samsung data is to uninstall the app however it is still in the app manager and the log in info is still active. I opted out of gps location but continue to get nag screens to allow google to use my location info. It just doesn't play nice when you don't want to play by their rules.
I guess this is how people who are stalked might feel.
Anyway, I cancelled the order for the third phone, I'm okay with my LG lite flip phone. I also spent three hours on the phone with various departments at T-Mobile to do ordering and working on issues. Interesting the number of call centers they have and where they are located.

"I hope this “smart device” craze causes folks to go back to plain old TVs, fridges and Raggedy Anne dolls…that are insentient and just do what they’re supposed to do." - Doc.

LOL. Those days are over and they were good days. It's not just Samsung. iPhone and the rest load their phones up with useless apps also. Thinking the smart watches are as bad or worst then the phones. Without going into detail I saw a trouble accident in the store last week with a guy walking at a quick pace while doing something on his smart watch. He crossed to the other side of the isle and crashed right into this poor older lady knocking her down. His words "sorry I didn't see you" At least he didn't just get away before giving his information to the Police. If people would just be careful it wouldn't be so bad but don't see that changing anytime soon.

But Doc...you don't need to search frantically for a way to kill all those zombies.....
....they'll do it all for themselves....walking under a truck...

Me thinks that Samsung and other tech companies going this route are going to start losing customers in droves with this intrusive/invasive tech they keep installing, so-say for our benefit.
A bloke in a local electrical retailer point blank refused to buy the latest Samsung TV with voice control the other day... despite the salesman's never say die efforts to convince him that it was a "great" buy. There was no way he was buying that TV after reading about voice control listening to everything in range and transmitting it to Samsung, that it could be operated/turned on remotely, but the salesman was nevertheless persistent. He simply wasn't interested in showing him something else so the bloke walked out and into another store across the way, where he bought a standard, no frills LG instead.
Oh how I love being a fly on the wall, watching people rejecting modern tech for pretty much the same reasons as me. A couple of weeks ago I watched a guy knock back a store special on an iMac because his objections were similar to mine. I ended up convincing him to build his own PC from scratch with parts he selected, without the bloat and other crap that OEMs install.

I agree when we get smart phones we are forced to have lots of crap on them we don't want or use. I can't agree they are going to start to lose customers in groves. My reason is the younger people may complain about some of it but by no means are they ever going to give up their phones as it's the only way of life they know. As each day passes there are more first time buyers of smart things and they are not about to give them up. I'm not knocking any generation as we know what we know and they are growing up with all this new stuff and will never give it up. I have talked to my Grandchildren about security and why do you need all this stuff. Really never get an answer except "I would be lost without my phone" That's all they know. They don't think about it, worry about anything on the installed on the phone and plain and simple just thing it's part of their life.
Remember I'm with you on this stuff but it has no effect with the younger generation. I don't know about the iPhone or some others. What I do know is on a Samsung phone you can root your phone or get it rooted and get rid of anything you don't want.

Greg I could write a book but easier for you to Google anything you wish to know. all the answers are available.
Example do a search: galaxy S5 how to stop google from asking me to log in
Here is something else you may want to do. Preinstalled apps are there to stay. Only way you can get rid of them is to root you phone. Don't suggest that unless you really know what you are doing. The phone at any time can be set back to factory settings. You don't want or need all the pre-installed apps to update when they have one available. You can turn off and on automatic updates anytime you wish. I never have mine on. I just go into the play store and update the apps I want. Do a search for "galaxy S5 turn off automatic updates"
you have something you want to change do a search it's all available. I never leave my location on either. I have GPS in my car but if I wanted to use the phone I would only turn it on when I am actually using it. Of course if you lose your phone it would have to be on to find it. I just don't worry about losing my phone and don't need to track my family. My Daughter leaves it all on except for automatic updates and has never had any problems.
I just don't need you knowing where I am. LOL.
